Transit offices are facilities that are going to be in high demand following the end of the transition period. Currently, approximately 60% of the EU’s trade with Europe moves via ferry and almost 85% of this traffic (around 10,000 trucks each day), moves through the Dover straits- yet few of these movements will finish in France.
From January 2021, anybody moving goods through a country that isn’t their final destination point will be required to attend a transit office at the beginning and end of their journey, unless you are an Authorised Consignor/Consignee.
This brings us to our second banana peel… there aren’t enough transit offices to cope with all of the new demand!
Transit offices will be incredibly busy and may also be restricted to limited opening hours, making it difficult for you to start the process. In addition to this, the time and cost of your truck attending transit offices during the journey could become fairly stressful.
Avoid Delays
We don’t want you to slip up! One way you can avoid the impact of delays at transit offices is by becoming an Authorised Consignee/Consignor. You will be able to start or end the transit movement at your own premises as opposed to having to attend transit offices to open or close the transit procedure. It is much more efficient!
Becoming an Authorised Consignor allows you to print the transit accompanying document (TAD) for each journey. As an authorised Consignee you can send transit arrival notifications to the relevant office digitally and if goods aren’t subject to additional inspections, you will receive automatic permission to unload them.
