UPDATE 29/04/2022
The requirement for further Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) checks on EU imports will no longer be required in 2022. This customs control requirement has been pushed back to the end of 2023.
New Brexit border controls for the phytosanitary and sanitary sector and for imports coming into Great Britain from EU member states were supposed to be enforced from the beginning of October. However, earlier today the Government announced that some of these changes are going to be postponed.
What are the Changes?
-
The pre-notification of agri-food products was to be introduced on the 1st October 2021. This has now been postponed and you will not be required to pre-notify agri-food products until the 1st January 2022
-
The requirement for Phytosanitary Certificates and physical checks of sanitary and phytosanitary goods at the new Border Control Posts were to commence from the 1st January 2022. This has been delayed until the end of 2023
-
Export Health Certificates were to be introduced the 1st October 2021. These will not be required until the end of 2023
-
The introduction of Safety and Security Declarations (also known as ENS/S&S GB) has moved back from 1st January 2022 to the end of 2023
Whilst these changes have been delayed, it is important to ensure that you are still ready for their introduction in just a few months time. Making sure that you are prepared will help you to manage the changes, allowing you to avoid delays, fines and additional stress.
